OUR HISTORY

Our Legacy of Faith – The History of New Salem

For over a century, the New Salem Baptist District Association has been a pillar of faith, unity, and spiritual leadership in the East St. Louis community and beyond. What began as a gathering of committed churches has grown into a movement that has shaped generations through worship, service, and unwavering belief in God’s power.

OUR LEGACY AND HISTORY

On August 5, 2020, New Salem Baptist District Association marked 100 years of ministry, growth, and impact. In celebration of this remarkable milestone, we created a historical documentary and commemorative booklet that tell the story of where we’ve been, what we’ve overcome, and where we’re going.

Our Founding and Early Years

From Humble Beginnings to a United Mission

Established in 1920, NSBDA was formed by local churches committed to cooperative ministry, doctrinal soundness, and advancing Christian education. With a foundation built on prayer and purpose, the district quickly became a spiritual force in the region—planting seeds of faith that continue to bear fruit today.

Growth Through the Generations

Leadership, Fellowship, and Expansion

Through the decades, the association expanded its reach with the creation of auxiliary ministries, leadership development programs, youth congresses, and district-wide revivals. The men and women who have led this district—Moderators, Vice Moderators, Congress Presidents, Ministers, and Lay Leaders—have each left their mark, carrying the torch with faith and fervor.
